Borussia Dortmund legend 'considering' move to MLS

After the arrival of Lionel Messi and other stars to Inter Miami, Major League Soccer could gain another massive star.

Borussia Dortmund -- who has qualified for the UEFA Champions League Final -- announced that midfielder Marco Reus will not be returning to the club after the 2024 campaign. The midfielder has played in over 400 matches for BVB and has tallied 169 goals.

Dortmund moving on from Reus came as a shock considering that the midfielder has been with the club since 2012. But at 34 years old, the German's best years are behind him. So far this season, Reus has appeared in 39 matches for Dortmund and has tallied eight goals.

With the club announcing that he will not be returning, it appears that Reus could land in MLS. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has reported that the German is considering a move to the United States.

The midfielder coming to MLS would be interesting considering that the league has tried to shred the retirement league label. With recent aging acquisitions such as Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba - and of course Messi - that label could be making a return.

Reus wouldn't be the only recent Dortmund player to make the jump across the pond. Goalkeeper Roman Burki signed with St. Louis City SC ahead of its inaugural campaign in 2023. The former BVB shot-stopper was an All-Star in his debut season on top of earning the 2023 Goalkeeper of the Year Award.

Burki and Reus were teammates at Dortmund from 2015 until the goalkeepers' departure. A reunion in St. Louis is a potential story that nearly seems too good to be true.

But almost any MLS team would benefit from having Reus on its roster. Even though the midfielder is past his prime, Reus seems primed to dominate if he was to make the move to the United States.
