Insider Has Minnesota Vikings Pulling Off Realistic Blockbuster Trade Up in NFL Draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is ready to do business in the 2024 NFL Draft starting Thursday from Detroit.

Adofo-Mensah has been in this zone since acquiring an additional first-round pick from the Houston Texans earlier in the offseason.

Why? Well, Kirk Cousins. That’s the name. Once the Pro Bowl quarterback bolted for the conference-rival Atlanta Falcons in NFL free agency, it became clear that the Vikes needed to find an heir-apparent. With all due respect, Sam Darnold is not that guy. He’s never been the guy. He never will be the guy.

It’s in this that the Vikings have been linked to trade-up scenarios throughout the entire pre-draft process. They now boast the 11th and 23rd picks in the annual NFL Draft. It’s a prime opportunity for Adofo-Mensah to make a further imprint on this roster at the most-important position the game has to offer.

We now have some more information on this via respected NFL insider Benjamin Allbright on KOA News Talk Sports in Denver.

Latest Mock Draft has Minnesota Vikings Trading Up for J.J. McCarthy

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Surprise? No, we didn’t think so. McCarthy has been a major talking point in Minneapolis during the pre-draft process. Rumors have consistently linked him to Minnesota.

The issue here is rather clear. It’s an open question whether Minnesota would exhaust both of its first-round picks to move up for the former Michigan star.

No need to fret. This latest mock draft doesn’t have the Vikings giving up the 23rd selection. Rather, Allbright projects them to move the 11th and 129th picks in this year’s draft, a first-rounder in 2025 and a second-rounder in 2026.

Is this doable? Without a doubt!

It sure beats the heck out of what the New England Patriots are demanding for the third pick in the draft. The Pats’ asking price is said to be at least three first-round picks. That’s about as likely as Anthony Edwards and Kevin Durant turning into besties.

We know one thing to be true throughout the smokescreen that has been the pre-draft process. Teams are playing the media game. They are not letting rivals know what their plans are. Nothing is going to happen on this front until Caleb Williams goes No. 1 to the Chicago Bears and Jayden Daniels presumably finds himself as the second overall selection of the Washington Commanders.
