Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards looks like the new face of the NBA

Anthony Edwards made a statement Saturday to the Phoenix Suns, Devin Booker and anyone who doubted he was the NBA’s next superstar.

Edwards scored 33 points in Minnesota’s 120-95 win over the Phoenix, including a three-pointer over his favorite player, Kevin Durant. The 22-year-old All-Star wasn’t shy about telling Durant about what he did, either.

Durant had a nice game as well, scoring 31 points on 17 shots, But Booker, who will be a teammate of Durant and Edwards on Team USA this summer, didn’t perform nearly as well. He got in early foul trouble and finished with 18 points on 5-for-16 shooting, with five of those points coming with Phoenix down 20 points in the final quarter.

Still, the game felt like Edwards was joining Durant, who Edwards called “the greatest to ever do it” in his postgame presser. The contest began with Edwards stealing the ball from Durant for an easy bucket.

And the competitive portion of the game ended when Edwards stole the ball from Durant and took it in for a dunk.

It was a superstar performance from Edwards, who showed off both his immense talent and his sparkling personality. But the biggest thing that helped his ascent on Saturday is that he got the Timberwolves a big win. After all, you can’t be the face of the league when you’re sitting at home in May and June.
