NBA Insider Provides Discouraging Karl-Anthony Towns Update
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this week, the Minnesota Timberwolves received a positive update on the status of Karl-Anthony Towns ahead of the NBA Playoffs. He is getting closer to returning to the court, as he should be able to get some game reps in ahead of the postseason.

Out since March 4th because of a meniscus injury, there was no concrete timetable given for Towns’ return to the court. The only thing that was being reported was that he would be able to play with the Timberwolves at some point during the postseason.

Alas, we now have a better idea of when we could see Towns back in the mix with his teammates. It was revealed that he took part in a scrimmage over the weekend and there was optimism that he would be back on the court before the NBA Playoffs.

Unfortunately, that return isn’t going to happen tonight. The Timberwolves are set for a huge matchup against the Denver Nuggets, with the winner taking over sole possession of first place in the Western Conference. But, Towns will not be on the court.

According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Towns isn’t planning to play against the Nuggets on Wednesday. Instead, a return against the Atlanta Hawks or Phoenix Suns over the weekend remains a possibility.

It certainly would have been a nice boost for Minnesota to get Towns back in the lineup in their biggest game of the regular season. While it is disappointing that he won’t be out there, they have to be encouraged to know that he is getting closer and this weekend could be when he gets back on the court.

The Timberwolves have been able to hold their own without Towns in the mix, going 12-5 to this point and keeping pace with the Nuggets. Wednesday night is the final road game of the regular season for Minnesota, as their last two games over the weekend will both be held at the Target Center.
